Good Morning Britain viewers have been left furious after a disgraced former MP was invited onto the show.

Duringtoday's programme, it was discussed whether Ian Fleming's James Bond novels should have been rewritten to remove "offensive" references. On the panel were broadcaster Ateh Jewel and Lord Jeffrey Archer who was convicted of perjury and perverting the course of justice in 2001.

The former deputy chairman of theConservative Partyand MP for Louth, Lincolnshire, won a libel case against the Daily Star after the newspaper alleged he had paid a sex worker in an article. He denied the accusation during a 1987 court case but it later emerged he had lied, resulting in his imprisonment.

Good Morning Britain viewers did not approve of the lineup and criticised theITV show. Taking to Twitter, @Paul68958640 wrote: "#gmb platforming #ToryCriminal Jeffrey Archer. They love their thugs and criminals don't they."

@JennyStiles1 said: "And now it’s f*****g Jeffrey Archer. That’s me done rather hack my head off with a herring. @GMB truly awful line up. #lawbreakers."

@UnInterlocutor commented: "Now we have odious Jeffrey Archer after Jacob Rees-Moog. #GMB leaving a lot of scrape marks on the bottom of the barrel today."

And @SaulStaniforth tweeted: "Convicted criminal Jeffrey Archer, who sits unelected in the House of Lords, invited on to #GMB this morning to share his opinions about something or other. Archer was convicted of lying and perverting the course of justice at a libel trial and sentenced to four years."

At the end of the segment, Lord Archer asked presenter Ed Balls, the former Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer: "Ed, how we miss you in the House at the moment. Why are you wasting your time as a television presenter when you should be sitting on the front bench of the Labour party?"

Susanna replied: "I'm not letting him go, sorry he's not coming back. He's not wasting his time, Lord Archer, he has a very important role to play as you both do."
