Demolition work is set to start within days on Huddersfield's worst eyesore - the former Huddersfield Technical College which has stood derelict for years.
Protective barriers have been placed around much of the site and the famous statue that once stood in St George's Square in front of the old hospital, a listed building, has had protectivewrapping placed around it.The car park has been closed and for residents who have spent years hoping that this day would come eventually, they can only wait for the sound of the wrecking ball shortly.
It has been a very long time coming with many false dawns but the main gateway site close toHuddersfield town centreshould soon have a shiny new horizon. The main building has been targeted by vandals for the past nine years and has become an embarrassment for residents who have had to live with the unappealing sight.
Planning permission has been secured to kick off one of the town's biggest-ever regeneration projects to be known as Trinity One and it is hoped the huge regeneration project will create a confident buzz around the rest of the town centre which has struggled of late.

Lidl intends to eventually relocate its existing store on Castlegate to the new larger building. The six-acre site is home to the Grade II listed original Huddersfield Royal Infirmary which is to be retained at the heart of the scheme.
It's thought the demolition work should be finished by June next year.
Huddersfield MPBarry Sheermanwho has taken a keen interest in the project said: "We have all sorts of things to be proud of in recent years in Huddersfield - the John Smith's Stadium, the new university buildings that keep popping up and so and then there's this building that makes you think: 'Oh, my goodness!'
"So it is marvellous news that the developers are finally getting on with it. And with the £20m Kirklees Council-backed redevelopment of the George Hotel in St George's Square, that is really good news for us all to celebrate."
Huddersfield historian Chris Marsden said he was glad to hear that the bronze statue of Edward V11 which was unveiled by his son George V was to be properly protected. He said: "It's an important part of our history. It was unveiled by George V not even getting out of his car but pulling disdainfully on a rope!"
