To say Mark McGuinness has made a big impression in short time at Sheffield Wednesday so far would be an understatement.

He's quickly become a focal point ofDarren Moore's side; the bedrock of a three-man defence and a big reason why the team has recorded 14 clean sheets in the league so far.

So news filtering through that McGuinness' parent club Cardiff City intend to exercise his recall clause next week will be a massive body blow.McGuinnesshas excelled, with the 22-year-old putting in a raft of performances that belie his age.

The expectation is that he will be given a swansong this weekend in the Owls' FA Cup third round clash at home to Newcastle United.

After that he will depart back to Wales with Cardiff experiencing a shortage of centre-halves.

It was announced this week that veteran Sean Morrison would not be getting a new contract with the club after eight-and-a-half years of service. With Oliver Denham injured and Curtis Nelson the subject of transfer speculation, Bluebirds' boss Mark Hudson has now decided to bring McGuinness back.

Wednesday are of course the team to suffer in all this but it should come as no surprise really, given the level of McGuinness' performances and the fact his main employers are in a relegation fight.

The task for Moore is to now somehow pull another rabbit out of the hat as he enters what will most probably be the loan market.

Whoever arrives through the door, there are big McGuinness-shaped shoes to fill.
