Clr Heslop-Mullens said: "Winning the YorkshireLive poll for the best seaside town is a fantastic acknowledgement of the work that has been undertaken by councils, businesses, and community groups to welcome visitors to the best sailing bay on the Yorkshire Coast.

"With its flat coastline, it is easily accessible for all age groups and has two great beaches for people to enjoy. But we combine this with the historic interest gained by visiting the Old Town and the Priory Church together with the wonderful Sewerby Hall and zoo.

"Entertainment facilities range from family entertainment centres, the well-used leisure centre, to the Spa and Spotlight theatres. Bridlington has something for everybody, which is why people enjoy coming here."

The result comes a year afterWhich? consumers named Bridlington the worst seaside resortin Yorkshire so it is some turnaround.

What's so great about Bridlington?

Bridlington has two very different beaches. The north beach is more of your traditional, kiss-me-quick seaside resort while the south beach is less developed and more laid back.

Like so many traditional British seaside resorts, Bridlington has seen better days but thanks to the post-Covidstaycation boom there's plenty of hope yet for Brid.

We can't talk about Bridlington without mentioning two things: 1) seafood and 2) Bridlington Spa. As well as fish and chips, Brid is pretty special when it comes to shellfish, particularly lobsters which are caught daily by the town's fishing crews.

The Spa on the seafront is no ordinary music venue. The Beatles and the Rolling Stones played it and big-name acts continue to do so.

Pulp, featuring singer Jarvis Cocker, are set to kick off their 2023 reunion tour at Bridlington Spa. Other acts playing the Spa this summer include Bad Boy Chiller Crew, Bastille, Niles Rodgers and Chic and Busted.

Other attractions include grade I-listed Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Bridlington Priory, the Harbour Heritage Museum, Bridlington Animal Park and RSPB Bempton Cliffs nearby.

Last year's hot, dry summer enticed thousands of sunbathers and swimmers to the town and we hope the same will happen this summer.
